Hello,

Although I'm not new to sewing, I'm new to the likes of E-Patterns.

I just wondered how many people actually used them, and what are their views on them?

Are they easy to use, and does anyone have a preference to them or traditional sewing patterns?

Many Thanks

Do you mean the Wild Ginger E-patterns?

My grandmother taught me to sew when I was 10, and I've been sewing ever since.

Some of them go through an awful lot of paper. Some come with a "copy shop" option that lets you take the file to a place with a large printer.

You need to watch out for paper size/scale. There should be a test square somewhere on the pattern pages that lets you check to be sure that you're printing at the correct gauge. Print that page first and check the measurements to be sure you're printing at the correct size before you send the entire pattern to the printer. You're in the UK and our paper over here is a different size. I don't know about the rest of the world. also you're usually dealing with pdf files.

As long as the pattern is printed at the correct size (eg a pdf file printed at 100% with the test square coming out at the correct size) you should be fine unless it's got drafting issues but that would have nothing to do with being an epattern.

Once it's printed you need to tape the paper pieces together and either cut it out or trace off the correct size.

If you're not sure about making an e pattern you could download a free e pattern for a simple garment and try it out. fabric.com has free patterns from Hot Patterns at http://www.fabric.com/creativity-headquarters-free-pattern-downloads.aspx?cm_re=SL3-_-Home-_-Free%20Pattern%20DL

I have only gotten ePatterns from Jalie and Christine Jonson. Christine has a nice tutorial on her webpage www.cjpatterns.com so you get an idea of what you may expect.

I like them, but prefer paper. The ones I got were only available as an epattern, so I didn't have a choice.

I have printed patterns from Burda Style website.

If you use a Mac computer, I suggest you go through Safari to open the site and print the pattern. I tried to print a pattern using the Chrome browser and could not get the test square to measure per instructions.

I used Safari and the test square measured what was stated for the pattern.

I think they are great, because they are instant gratification! I've used the Burdas on a Mac and never had any issues.
