Date: 12/9/12 6:57 PM Not sure if this is the right forum for this post but maybe someone can help.
In the weekend, I picked up a 1 metre remnant of a lovely embroidered silk woven. It's about the same weight as silk-cottons often are -medium to light weight but not sheer. By coincidence at the same time, I had chosen a viscose-lycra knit in almost the same shade of green. It is a medium weight viscose lycra.
I'm wondering if there's any way I could use the silk for a dress bodice (empire line-ish) and have a viscose lycra skirt. I'd prefer the interesting fabric on the top as I'm pear shaped.
My main concerns are : the weight of the skirt (it's not that heavy but still). Could I use a strong lining in the bodice to help with it?
- I haven't seen this done anywhere. Lots of knit bodices with woven skirts but not tother way about. I'm thinking there's probably a good reason for this?
I don't think I have enough fabric to make a separate top and skirt but I'll have a try if a dress can't be done.
Any thoughts welcome! |

Date: 12/9/12 8:14 PM It depends on the weight of the knit, like a stable double knit for example.
I once owned a dress made from light cotton (shirting) on top with a pencil ponte knit skirt.
Also, I used a wool crepe for the skirt (see this dress ) but it would have worked very well with ponte or ottoman knit. In any event, it's a combo I have seen in RTW.
With a lighter knit, I don't know. Do you have a photo of your fabric and an example for the design you have in mind? ------ There is a crack in everything. That's how the light gets in. - L. Cohen. |
