Cutting out panne velvet with the nap upside down?

I was so careful to make sure that the nap was facing the same way on all the pieces, which it is. Just the wrong way. Which I noticed after I started sewing it together, and have no more fabric to redo it. So I'm going to finish it, since I was half done when I noticed. It's a simple tshirt type top, with a gathered skirt. A nice teal color too. So, will this kill it, or will it just look a little different? Or do I just call it a creative design decision Mary

I was taught to cut with the smooth side running down, but read some info last year about stretch velvet (knit) that the rough side down gave more interesting color. ------ My grandmother taught me to sew when I was 10, and I've been sewing ever since.

It doesn't matter, as long as it's all going the same way. I personally like my velvet and corduroy to be soft-down, so when you pet yourself you feel the softness LOL, but traditional wisdom says the color is richer if the nap goes soft-up. I even have a pair of velvet harem pants I bought at Covent Garden 20 years ago where the nap goes SIDEWAYS! It doesn't look strange, but it's a little annoying to wear, as it causes clothing worn over it to shift to the left as you walk.... ------ ~Gem in the prairie

And it's absolutely your creative design choice. Next time, before you cut, hold the fabric with the nap up and the reverse to see what you see. It's usually a deeper color with the rough side going up. I find it hard to give up the luxurious soft feel of it running down. ------ Sometimes she didn't always follow the recipe.
