Date: 12/15/12 7:49 AM Good Morning Everyone, I am getting my sewing machine on xmas eve. As such I want to make sure that I have all my supplies on xmas day so i can sew. Can you help me to figure out a list of things I will need for my basic supply list?
Thread - White, Black, Gray --Brand?
I have great cutting supplies
Maybe Binding?
I am going to get a Viking Opal 650 Sewing Machine

Let us know what you are tackling first so we can give you a better idea of what you will need. You may need a pattern and some fabric, with thread to match. ------

Date: 12/15/12 10:15 AM I would make sure I had some scrap fabric, I find it is a good idea to sit down with the machine and go through the manual, trying out all the different stitches, combinations etc. ------

This will help you understand the functions from bobbin winding through routine maintenance. All of which require accuracy. |

Some depends on what you are planning to sew -- will you focus on garment sewing, quilting, craft sewing?
Other basic supplies:
- pins and pin cushion or magnetic pin holder
- thread
- bobbins
- measure tape and seam gauge
- needles to fit the fabric you will work on
- fabric scissors
- marking tools (disappearing ink pen)
- fabric

1. Pencil skirts about 3. Without the pattern.
2. A purse, i have to check for a pattern for this one.
3. I am going to do a few T-shirt projects i got off of Pintrest.
Oh i am going to need elastic for the skirts. I would hate to get started on xmas and not be able to finish the project. |

Date: 12/16/12 5:04 AM You can try downloading the manual online do you can get familiar with what your machine does. It is good to know the name of the parts.
There are many free tote pattens online. Thrift stores are great places to pick up practice fabric, patterns and some notions.
You can also take things apart to see how they are made or use them to trace a pattern.
It's sometimes fun to see out all of your machines stitches and label them and put them in a binder or box for future reference.
You will want some fabric markers that erase with water or air.
And a good basic sewing book to show you how to make things you are interested in. ------
