Didn't think it would happen - I talked myself out of Bernina for now

I spent a good chunk of yesterday playing around on the web while I was taking breaks from working on my blog - much of it was spent really looking at the specifics of the Bernina models. End result: there is no travel machine I'd buy from them. I was disappointed in needle threaders, lack of hover feature, and just other stupid stuff that I think should be on machines that are as expensive as these are. I came to the realization that Bernina *only* packs all of the features I'd want on a $10,000 tank machine. (and I already have two tanks.. I was hoping for something in the 20 pound or less range). I kept notes and wrote a blog page about it... let's just say that watching YouTube videos and reading other blogs yesterday just bummed me out of Bernina. All I want are the feet. ------ nightowlsally.com On my radar someday: Babylock Serger, and some machine for travel. I just didn't bond w/ the placement of the buttons on their machines. Weird gripe I know but bonding is important. We have the nicest Bernina dealers here & all the Bernina gals are dedicated to the brand. It's fun to watch. When you read all this Bernina brohaha I wonder if something is wrong w/ me for not bonding. Am happy w/ my herd tho.

I have a B330, which I bought without knowing thing one about Berninas. I was tired of cheapie machines and just wanted something that I wouldn't have to fiddle with constantly. In that area, it has excelled. I will say that I love the stitch quality. I love that the machine is pretty portable. I love that I can use the big feet with it. I love that it is actually pretty powerful. It goes over thick seams without a sound, where my BabyLock makes a thunk. I don't like that it doesn't have adjustable presser foot pressure. Not something I've had to deal with much, but it would be a nice feature. I don't like the limited buttonholes. Again, hasn't personally been an issue, but it means that this isn't the be-all, end-all machine for me. The button placement isn't the greatest. Too many times I've hit the "start" button instead of the reverse button. If I had to do it again with the knowledge I have now, I'd have gone for the Juki F600. As it is, I'm waiting to pull the trigger on the TL2010Q. That should round out my herd for a while. Janome has the 3160 and 4120, which are 12lbs and pretty loaded, though the 3160 has mixed reviews. Is there any brand which makes a lightweight machine with hover? Any brand with hover for less than $1000? All the brands remove features, even cheap ones, from the lower models. My Select 3.0 doesn't have the needle threader or organizer tray in the accessory box that the Select 4.0 has. ------ 🌸 Plenty of machines, mostly Berninas 🌸

My husband loves it, he actually started hemming his own jeans after I got it. Bought it sight unseen too & everything about it... the placement of everything, how it works, etc works for me. It's one machine hubby won't let me sell. Am going to get a 2010Q soon. Only thing left is a combo.. would love some nice big 9mm floral stitches. The Juki F600 isn't as floral when it comes to decoratve stitches compared to others. Buttonholes are fantastic.... easy peasy.

If it's the one about his experience with the aggravating pricing policies (which all companies seem to have in common) ... then yes. Saw it 6 months ago. Date: 12/17/12 8:11 PM Im surprised at all of the special higher end things I no longer really care about on a sewing machines. Right now It seems like Im having more fun playing with diff. kinds of threads and working on learning new quilting skills. Cutting and piecing and better seams - Im even working on making a square quilt! I like the quality of my FMQ and mostly like the styles I know -- but, want to know more patterns that I LIKE. Im sure there will be a time when I get really excited about a new machine. Soon or not so soon - it will come. One day I bet there will be a updated SS machine with a (even slightly) larger harp. Maybe nothing new except that would make me dream.. But I can do King size quilts easy on this one .. The 710 is honestly EVERYTHING I thought I wanted in a machine. I dont know why Im not going crazy for it -- Maybe Its the draft through my windows!! I still need to put on the plastic and replace those! I hope more people can buy the 7** soon and talk all about them! ------ Drag queen quilter!

I sewed very happily on Kenmores, Elnas and Janomes until 3 years ago when I bought my first Bernina. And after two years of ownership, she's still trying to like the machine. But she feels she spent so much on it, she can't take it back or resell it. I'm impressed at all your research! Your decision is very well thought out.
