I am not sure why - maybe it's the heat from the machine, or the lamp or maybe he just likes the vibration, or maybe he just gets JEALOUS of all the attention the machines get - but my cat, Goku cannot resist climbing up and joining the sewing. I have tried shooing him off, but he jumps back up. I have tried locking him out but a horrible noise akin to a dying animal arises from the other side of the door. I have found a compromise that works for a little while. I wait, until he is fast asleep, then I move him to a basket lined with scraps. He wakes up but is generally too sleepy to do more than chirp at me before continuing his cat nap. Once the nap is over - there he is again!

Maybe I am the only one with a feline friend who loves sewing as much as Goku - or at least loves something about the sewing room. I try to tell myself that he just wants to hang out with me but the evidence belies this as he regularly goes in there when I am not around. What to do?

My beloved Birman male would sit right next to the sewing machine that I'd be using at the time. He wouldn't play w/ the threat or anything... just lean against the machine. Didn't matter which machine either. Hubby thinks he thought the machine was purring.

I like the basket thing, we had a box for him if he got in the way... but usually he was leaning against the back, not the front.

Your cat looks sweet.

This is the reason I have covers on my machines, and of course cat beds right beside them when I am not sewing. HAHAHHaaa...ALL THAT HELP.

When I am sewing, the fake fur gets moved to my computer desk...
She likes to stay within a set radius of me!

What a wonderfully inviting, cozy sewing place - no wonder kitty likes to be there

My kitties also love to be by the sm.... for some reason Abigail favors Martha FW where Mittee does not particular care she just wants to sit by them & me sewing, she is also fascinated with the cutting board which I try to discourage..... .
Your kitty looks so sweetest kitty.....

I know why.. he wants to keep the stitch count down so he can get a good trade in allowance on it when he trades it in for that PINK Brother machine.. you know the one..

Dawnabbey, your Goku looks so much like my Desdemona! I love black kitties! Desdemona likes to lay down behind my machine and look at me through the harp, whether I'm sewing or just hanging around in the living room. I think it must seem like a cat-sized fortress to her. She doesn't bother with thread on the sewing machine, but if I leave the serger uncovered . . .
