I'll be in the Minneapolis area over the holidays and thought I'd investigate some quilt shops. I 'm particularly interested in modern quilting. Any guidance would be appreciated!

Everytime I am in Minneapolis I go to Treadle Goods in St. Paul on Grand Avenue. They have lots of quilting fabric, and a lovely selection of garment fashion fabric. The staff is wonderful, and they're running a sale now until the end of the year.

Another place is Harris -- out in the Maple Grove area. (You can get driving directions to both of these places by googling.) This is a huge warehouse with ALL types of fabric -- probably including some quilting fabrics. If you go hear, prepare to stay a while, cuz' fabric is stacked to the ceiling and you really have to hunt!

Creative Sewing Centers are sewing machine stores (I think there are 3 of them in the cities). They would certainly know of area quilt shops (you can google them, too).

I'm sure there are other quilting places, but I'm a fashion fabric person. Good luck!

I'm in Minneapolis August and September and yearly I go to SR Harris -- I rarely have found anything I like!! I try to warn folks because it is a Warehouse (think double size of a Home Depot!!!!) and like someone said -- to the rafters with fabric -- That said, their cottons have sat, some for TOO long - Dry rot. I've pulled bolts open and seen dye lots that didn't go through. All that aside - it is a MIND exploding experience, so I still go :-)

OHH I did get a bolt of 100% pure silk about 5 years ago I still can't make myself cut into at ONLY $15.00/yard!! whoo hooo

:-)

I have great enthusium for sewing, but lack talent to be great.
