I like it. Anyone with an embroidery machine and a photo stitch type digitizing program could do this, and with almost no learning curve on that Photostitch at all and it's just all one thread color, black sewn out on white stretch silk. They also used a chain stitch (from your overlocker or cover stitch machine would work fine) to just do some decorative rows of top stitching on the skirt portion of the dress to tie it in. I thought it was pretty neat, as always kind of liked Photostitch style embroideries, but just almost never see them on anything ready to wear at all. These pictures from

You could do your version of this for the RTW knock off contest. It would be interesting to see what you would stitch out and how you would tie in your skirt.

Yes, that is it. Wow, interesting how they could go out of stock in just a few hours? But maybe there were not too many of them. I think one reason you don't see too much Photo Stitch kind of embroidery on ready to wear, is it might be kind of very time and stitch intensive, to do commercially. But for that kind of money, who cares? But the dress it's on is for sure pretty simple. But on dress, they got their stitch lengths on the scan lines of the Photostitch type embroidery there, opened up pretty wide, and not that many stitches all into it.

Also interesting, is that when you watched the "walking model video" for it, on net-a porter, you could see by the flow and the movement of the embroidered silk there, there really was no stabilizer left under that embroidery at all, so it was done in the hoop, with some kind of wash-a-away or iron away, or desolving stabilizer, that was removed after the fact. Which having your stitches that large large and open, would work out that way, just fine, and leave your dress front, still nice and soft and draping.
