Have decided to go with the Renfrew cowl neck, but I think that back of the cowl will be too high for my short neck. Has anyone tapered it from front to back? I have tried this on KS3740 and it worked, but cowl is designed different on this one.

Try gathering the center back vertically. With the collar flat, before it's attached to the neckline, run a row of gathering threads on each side of the CB line, then place a piece of twill tape or seam binding on the wrong side of the collar, between the gathering lines and stitch the gathers in place. I did this the other day on a self-drafted knit collar; a 10" high collar piece was gathered into 4", then folded so that when it was attached to the neckline, the back was only 2" high and the gathers created a very graceful "guide" for the rest of the collar to follow.

Try on the cowl alone before you sew it to the garment. It all depends on the fabric and how drapey it is.

Ooh, thanks for this. I made a cowl last year that is also too high and I can't get it to lay right when on. I'm going to try your idea.
