Karla's mushroom recipe found here is my project for the day.

Assembly - pretty easy, though I would have mixed all the ingredients and then added the mushrooms. Much easier to melt the butter (had to look up how much a "stick" is again. How hard is it to write in cups, people?) and bullion cubes.

Seeing how quickly they cook down, I could have used my crock pot, I think.

One hour in - the house smells pretty amazing!

Will keep you posted.

Two hours in - the mushrooms have shrunk down a lot and they are all floating in the delightfully aromatic liquid. Starting to think we might not need a main dish with these things...

I've never done it myself, but the Pioneer Woman suggest making a meal of these with the addition of crusty bread...and I think that would suit me just fine.

MMMMMMMmmmmm....three hours in - the mushrooms are really, really dark now and when I take the lid off, the first thing I smell is the butter.

Five and a half hours - note to self: do not stick nose so close to pot when lifting lid to sniff. The wine/mushroom/garlic/butter sinus steam is intense! And fogs up one's glasses.

I'd almost have time to fly out there to taste them.

This sounds soooo good!

I wonder if one could use brown (crimini) mushrooms as well (or a blend)? I love button mushrooms but I find brown mushrooms have even more taste.

I am going to try this... perhaps even in my crock pot.

Less than an hour to go. More "soup" than mushrooms and it is tempting to stand and smell the pot for the next 45 minutes. I have a feeling the bread and salad (do we have to have salad?) might be the way to go. But when DD the chef gets here, she may have plans for all that fantastic looking liquid. Good luck with that, honey! Mom and Dad may have scarfed it all by then!
