It's about 140 cm/ 55 inches wide and .2 meters (1/5 - 1/4 yard) long. It has kind of a leaf/teardrop pattern and reminds me a bit of some of the ethnic fabrics you see at places like Ten Thousand Villages. My first thought was that it would make a great purse, but now I'm thinking about making a Christmas gift out of it for my son. (We're not having Christmas until almost New Year's Eve, so there's time.)
I've thought about placemats, but it's a bit narrow for that, and I don't think my son would use placemats. I thought about making a "coat" for a nice serving bowl, if that makes sense. Or about covering a wooden box with it, but I'm not sure I could make that look good. Or maybe making a pillow cover with it -- alternating right side and wrong side (front/back), because both are interesting. I want it to be something sort of useful, but not boring. Any other ideas?
P.S. Oh yeah, it cost 70 cents.

Date: 12/22/12 0:53 AM I use that sort of pieces for wine bags. I give mine away but if he carries wine etc. to parties, he might like that. But purses or pillows is where my brain went, too. ------ http://bgballroom.wordpress.com to follow the progress on my next ballgown. |

Date: 12/22/12 8:34 PM Sew4Home is an excellent reference site. I've already done one project (grommet shoe bag) and I just learned of the site a couple of hours ago. Thanks. |

Date: 12/23/12 4:01 PM Thanks for the ideas. I'm not sure this would work for a pillow -- it's kind of narrow. And nothing else has quite spoken to me yet. I'll let you know if I get an inspiration. ------ my shield and my very great reward (Gen. 15:1)

Date: 12/23/12 10:16 PM Hi -- thanks. It would make a nice table runner, but I'm not sure a single guy in his late 20's would have any interest in a table runner.
It would make a nice case for something, but I don't know what dimensions it would need to be. If it doesn't speak to me by about tomorrow about what it wants to be, I may just use it for something for myself. I have this crazy notion that I'm going to sew him a shirt this week and maybe also a pair of pants for my daughter ........ so the time for a stroke of inspiration may be about up. I suppose if he has kitchen objects that he might like covered, that's another possibility. If all else fails I'll ask him what it "looks like" to him when he gets here.
