Date: 12/23/12 5:08 PM I have a Bernina 430E and using the basic software that came with my machine. What format besides ART can I buy? The sales woman told me EXP works too but I can't figure out how to get that format to work. What am I doing wrong? Advice? Thanks! |

Date: 12/23/12 6:19 PM There is so much needed to answer this.. and I am thinking that with Christmas chores and families visiting no one might have the time to do you justice.
My advise is to read all you can in the archives about formats etc.. You will probably find your answers there.
Then come back and bump this up again after the holidays.

Date: 12/23/12 7:55 PM I'm pretty sure the 430's only used ART, not EXP. The 630's use EXP. It's a great machine. Enjoy it! |

Date: 12/23/12 7:55 PM I don't own this machine, but I figured I'd at least try to look up some info for you. Embroidery Library has a list here informing customers which format to buy according to their machines. I did notice that for the Bernina Artista 430 only the ART format was suggested.
I had first checked the online manual for your machine, but either the format wasn't mentioned in the manual or I overlooked it (entirely possible). ------

Date: 12/23/12 9:47 PM I don't have your machine but have many embroidery programs. Open your program, import a design and you will see a drop down menu under the name for format. See what is on that list: you may see exp or art with a number. This is what your machine software can import. Some programs give a different option under open verses import. Embroidery library has some nice freebies plus it's a great way to practise. Also, unzip the original design as embroidery programs can't open zip files. Bernina may have some freebies on their site to try the different formats. Merry Christmas and happy sewing. ------

Date: 12/24/12 7:25 AM I has the 430 but didn't add the EMB module. At the time I was told by the dealer only ART. And also told by others that ART was being phased out and not supported as Bernina was moving to a different software.
So for less than the 430 EMB module I got a Janome 350E and my software converted fine.
Unless anything has changed ART is it. So you will need software to convert other files types to ART. ------

However I see no mentioning of the use of a magic box or other converter that you can use to change a card from one format to another. There is so much I do not know about your model I hesitate to answer or to advise.. which is why I think you might find more answers in the archives. If I recall there is an entire thread on your model.

I have the 630 and editor v.5. The software will read either art or exp, and the software will convert art software to exp for the machine. Check with your dealer to see if the software will do the opposite: convert exp to art for your machine as many embroidery formats will eliminate art in the future because the new 5,7, 8 series read exp. |

Date: 12/24/12 4:26 PM Have not that particular machine, but I can see how it works. Machine needs .art sent to it, by it's EC program while hooked to computer. EC program wants you to select the .art formatted design of your choice, from within your computer. And yes for just that, I too think it only wants .art. So I think that is your issue right there.
I can even see on Bernina website, on machine charts where they even tell you it takes .art. Even though some other machines there, maybe take .exp.
However, if you also got the Editor Lite as a separate installed computer program along with the machine, you could open up a .exp, .dst, or whatever design in that program first, convert .exp or something else to .art there, save as .art, then use your EC program that drives the sewing machine, to navigate to it, and sew out that now expanded stitch only .art formatted embroidery design.
Don't know what you are doing, or how, but if you got both those software, just try it that way.

Date: 1/2/13 4:03 PM Ok so I finally figured it out! It was user error! I purchased a whole bunch of fonts in EXP and didn't unzip the files after I downloaded them. My hubby unzipped the files and now all the EXP formatted fonts work.
