How the heck do I quilt this really stuck.

Date: 12/25/12 2:28 AM I let my sisters suggest colors, and this sister picked her quilt block and I proceeded over the course of some time to slowly make then quilts. I finished one quilt, the quilting design was obvious. This one though... the block was easier and the top was easier cuz there are only 36 blocks instead of 36 bajillion. The quilting on the other hand... I'm kinda lost. I'm not really sure what to do with this one. Any ideas, or sugestions on how to quilt this one? Like, what kind of designs to do? I don't want to do stitch in the ditch, think of all the swiveling. second queen size quilt top

When I have quilts with lots of straight lines, especially a log cabin like this one, I like semi-circles. So take a large plate and trace the upper half in different levels, starting from a corner. Thanks for thinking its nice Its a surprisingly forgiving block. I lost count how many different fabrics I used. The LQS has a scrap bin and let's you purchase remnants at $0.15 an inch and gives some stuff free. She's a disorganized sister so scrappy fits her personality.

Date: 12/25/12 12:17 PM I love when the quilting pattern interacts in a cool way with the piecing...i would turn a grid on the diagonal to the piecing so the quilt blocks re combine . It makes a quilt much more visually interesting iof the two patterns, that of the quilting and that of the piecing are having a conversation rather than just speaking in unison. ------ sarah in nyc www.sewnewyork.blogspot.com

The colors are so lush and beautiful and the arrangement is really interesting. I'm no genius with quilting patterns, but I'd try circles, waves, scallops, or even a grid that runs opposite the orientation of the logs, like Sarah suggested. What an excellent gift! ------ 🌸 Plenty of machines, mostly Berninas 🌸

Not my colors at all and I really like it, so it must be special. I think the scrappy fabrics are especially effective because of the rigidness of the pieces and blocks. For quilting, what about the Baptist Fan pattern? It is so round it would contrast nicely with the all of the straight lines. If you google Baptist Fan images you will see what I mean. ------ Barb
