My iron started smoking yesterday--gray smoke coming from between the soleplate and the body of the iron, and it smelled like something was burning. (Duh....) It was working fine before this. What happened?? It's a Reliable Digital Velocity iron that's almost two years old, so of course the warrenty is out. I've emailed the company but they're closed right now--got an email reply saying the person I sent it to (tech support) would be back Jan. 7. I have an old Rowenta that I'm using, but I love that Reliable iron. Anybody else had this happen? Any suggestions? At least I wasn't working on that white wedding dress that's on my alterations list!

What other machine was in use near the iron? I ask because this summer, I "cooked" my iron by using my serger while it was on. Although neither machine was plugged into the same outlet, the outlets must be on the same line. When I finished serging, the iron started smoking. I discarded it for fear of having bigger problems. Sorry to hear that this happened to your RDV; I understand they're expensive.

How is that still a thing?

I was also using my sewing machine but I've always done that and never had a problem. My washer & dryer are also in that room and I've had both of them and the iron and the sewing machine going and it's all been okay. I plugged my old iron into the same outlet and it has worked fine, so I'm thinking it's the iron itself and not the electricity.
