UPGRADE help :) Bernina 730 / Pfaff??

Got to upgrade to a Innovis 1200 with embroidery. Didn't catch the embroidery bug until I discovered Huups and some other German designs. Now I love it. What do I sew? Children's clothing. I've been poking around and asking ya'll a lot lately I sew lots of knits! Little girls dresses. I have a babylock imagine as my serger! Someday I want a coverstitch but honestly, my Bernina has some great stitch options there... soooo That brings me to my Bernina. Snagged it on Craigslist for a great price! Artista 180. I've even been using it for embroidery and it is just so crisp and so darn clean. So that's when I found the Bernina love -- but it wasn't love at first sight. Some getting use to their style/mechanisms and I know I've barely figured out some of the crazier/cooler parts. I don't digitize or whatever. Mostly use the designs as is -- just transfer and embroider. Usually embroider on felt and then transfer but sometimes on knits and cottons. Important: good tensions (um, clearly we all want that...). Automatic jump cutting. If I"m upgrading - I want scissors and auto-cuts!! Good with knits --- I'm pretty good and know my way around to try and keep the seams from stretching out but still, need a good machine that handles that stuff well!! All of the normal things such as adjustable presser foot, up down needle, etc. WHAT am I missing? What might I need instead?? I really love the Bernina 730 that I saw on sale used for $3500. I've also wanted to think about a Pfaff?? Suggestions???? Date: 12/27/12 10:07 PM I have sewn and embroidered on my 730 for the last five years. Awesome embroidery, and great sewing machine. Sometimes knits needed a walking foot, besides the presser foot pressure adjustment. But not all the time. Truly I never felt it was a problem, but I have been using a walking foot on a Bernina with knits since the 80's so I didn't know it could be easier, lol. The 730 has scissors, which I found awesome for both sewing and embroidery. But- no cutting of jump stitches and no IDT (thus the walking foot) Now that I have been using a Pfaff with IDT for two months, that also embroiders - I have to say I would choose it over the 730. It pains me to say that, but honestly the IDT is the bomb. And cutting jump stitches - I never want to go back to the manual cutting of jumps. I love my Pfaff for embroidery. And sewing. Bernina of course has newer machines with dual feed and embroidery, but they are much pricier than the 730 you mentioned.

IDT - I see mention of this... someone give me an explanation. It's a dual feed, yes? So how does that benefit me with knits (I'm playing devils advocate of sorts here... just wanting to hear how ya'll explain it and what you say. I'm not as dumb as I sound What would I miss going from a Pfaff from a Bernina?? They are selling new on eBay for under $1800. $2000 or slightly more should be a more likely price from a dealer. Take the MSRP and subtract 40% as a starting point in negotiating.
