Choice of fabric for down comforter cover.

I need to pick your brains on what I should make a comforter cover out of. This cover will be over the down comforter, but under a decorative comforter. The comforter is shedding feathers like crazy, so I want a "feather-impermeable" type of fabric. I have considered traditional pillow ticking-like fabric, or even using sheets with very high thread counts to stop the feathers. Suggestions? Thanks for your help!

Date: 12/31/12 7:11 PM I suggest one side being flannel and the top being a sheet with a high thread count. Why the flannel? So the thing won't slip off the bed. Maybe it is time to replace it. We have down duvets on all our beds. There comes a point when you just have to replace them. If you can determine where the feathers are coming from you can stitch a patch over that area. I have done this to lengthen the life of a duvet, but it is a sure sign it is close to the end. I wash our duvets at least 2 times per year. I cannot afford to have a washing machine repair due to feathers clogging it up. ------ Proud parent of a Dwight International School Honour Roll Student

Another downproof fabric is a tightly woven nylon taffeta or ripstop. ------ My grandmother taught me to sew when I was 10, and I've been sewing ever since.

Hmmm. The comforter is brand new, so it's not a "wear" issue. It was a high quality one that I splurged on for Christmas. It's *Blank* cold in NE, so really warm choices are not a problem. 5 months of winter, sigh.
