The fix in this instance was that there is a button hole arm to the left and behind the sewing machine needle shaft that must be pulled down fully before the machine will play ball. Also, once your fabric is properly situated and clamped in place: gently pull forward on the whole buttonhole foot assembly at which point the machine should report all systems green for go. Sorry for wasting folk's time.)
Ok! New kid here *shing! sparkle! sparkle*
I've recently been gifted a Singer 9960 for xmas. I'm looking forward to getting to know it. Unfortunately, my skills are very limited as far as sewing with this many options.
So this thread's problem is about the buttonhole foot and getting it to work properly. I've got the foot on the shank that came with the machine. I do not have the underplate in place. I'm attempting to darn a small hole in a cotton undershirt (the stretchy knit stuff).
The issue is that the machine keeps telling me that the presser foot is not entirely in the "down" position.
Does anyone have any input on what I'm doing wrong and what kind of data would be needed to help clear this problem?
Thanks for taking the time. I'm very certain there are going is going to be a multitude of questions just like this one.
Happy New Year, hope to hear from you folks soon.
Regards,

Date: 1/2/13 5:10 AM Good info. I'm sure it will help others. I went to a computer machine a few years back and tried a few times each day to get the buttonhole foot to work using my manual. Or so I thought. Finally noticed that silly plastic thing that needs to be pulled down. My Internet was out or PR would have rescued me sooner. ------ re-living my youth through sewing... |
