Janome 8200qc vs 6600.

I wanted it to sew fast and have more room under the harp area. I was looking at the janome 6600, when I saw the 8200 had come out. There is quite a difference in the price here in the uk. If I went for the 6600 that would save quite a bit of cash for fabric. Quite a few years ago I owned the 6500, but gave up sewing for a while when I had our daughter. But that was one machine I regret selling. Not sure which way to hop at the moment. It is a bit less expensive but some of the reviews are good & it has a nice harp area. Date: 1/1/13 5:55 PM I'm a big believer in buying something that you can grow into so it'll challenge you for a long time. I own the 6600 and it is a good solid machine. Two things I do not like about it: the lighting is really poor compared to what comes on the newer machines of today. Also, I hate the threader. I have to thread it by hand and I really hate that...with bifocals, astigmatism and middle-aged eyes that doesn't work too easily. I'm sewing on my 6600 now because my Bernina is in the shop and I'm struggling with those things. Of course I'm a tad spoiled with a newer machine. If I were you, I'd take a hard look at the 8200. Date: 1/1/13 6:13 PM I'm a big fan of the 6600, it was a "finalist" when I shopped and ended up with the somewhat similar Quest Plus. The 8200 has an 11" harp (2" more than the 6600 or the domestic straight stitchers). It's the pared down version of the 8900, but with most of the upgrades of the 8900 over the 7700. I would really take a look at it, as I think Janome perfected/refined the 7700 in making the 8200 and 8900. I haven't heard prices yet, but it might not be too bad, since it's intended to be the budget version of the 8900. The Janome Horizon yahoo group discusses all these (7700, 8200, 8900). There's been some grumbling about some not liking all the talk about the new models, but I think it'll die down soon, and this group is active, 99.99% friendly, and helpful, so much that I keep reading even after buying the 820 instead of the 7700. I've learned a lot about threads from that group, and there's plenty of garment sewists there too. Everyone who has that Juki F600 loves it, and it's less expensive, too. Best of luck choosing! I love mine. I am not sure about the threader-I don't have any trouble with it. There is a little metal hook on the threader that you have to get the thread on for it to work. If the dealer had not shown that hook to me, I don't think I would have found it. I do not use the Accufeed often but when I need it I am so glad I have it. What about 7700? It is between the two and are being sold online here in the US. The 8200 has the 9mm stitches and more stitch variety. I think the 8200 is pretty pricey here too. What fun for you to be able to get a new machine!

Date: 1/1/13 6:59 PM I like the fact that you can remove the Accufeed on the 8200 and 8900 and put it on when you need it...not hanging in the back possibly catching your fabric as some people has said happen. Still, I like the solidness and easy interface of the 6500/6600's. No menus to scroll through. At least you can see the menu on the lid on the 8200, which makes it easier. I'm missing that from the Pfaff I sold.

But as Karen said I like the solidness and easy button interface on the 6600. Also the 6600 would sew marginally faster than the 8200. Date: 1/1/13 7:45 PM If you quilt be sure to test the differences between the 7mm vs 9mm feed of the 6600 and 82/8900 machines. I think I would love to upgrade to the larger Horizon machine but my 6600 is so proven. I ended up ordering the 8900 It was £500 off retail price with a janome special offer. I really liked it and felt at home sewing on it. The dealer didn't have the 8200 but the offer on the 8900 made it affordable. Should get it Thursday.
