Need needle help! Hurry! Wow, I haven't been confused by SM Needles since...

Date: 1/1/13 5:39 PM Asked "the guy" for ball point needles to sew medium weight cotton knit. He gave me this: 8 needles 2 - 11/75 4 - 14/90 2 - 16/100 No other marking which tells me which of these needles are the UNIVERSAL ones and which are BALL POINT ones. I thought Universal and Ball Point were two different kinds of points! Did I miss something?

Luckily, I did a test seam on a piece of scrap. These needles are breaking all the fibers in the fabric, all the way down the seam! Magnifying glass yielding no further clues except the needle size. (should I be able to tell a ball point through a magnifying glass?) I found a package of these Schmetz in my stash and they're working just wonderfully: Yes, the Dritz needles ARE TOTALLY confusing. Does anyone know what's going on? Also: NOW I could use some recommendations on a good source for these Schmetz needles! I like free shipping... j. -- Edited on 1/1/13 6:13 PM --

Also the two needles on the right in your photo, are actually looking longer than the rest? That whole package makes no sense at all to me. Unless there is some code chart on the back of it maybe? This is how I think they used to be packaged, but I actually never tried those either. But at least there were two packages in there, and marked as to which ones were which.

The back even states "Universal needles are for (blah, blah) "Ballpoint needles are for (blah, blah) yet they never, nowhere, in this particular packaging, tell you WHICH NEEDLES are which! Date: 1/2/13 8:04 AM Discount Embroidery Supply (in Colorado Springs) sells both Schmetz and Organ. They have quantity pricing and free shipping for the first pound but there is a minimum order of $25.00. They also sell Superior, Klasse, and Singer needles along with a multitude of other items. I love buying needles from them as they have hard to find sizes and types of needles. I usually stock up for a year as the price is so good that way.

They are recommended to eliminate stitch-skipping, but why not go to the "eliminator" instead of wasting time and money on the BP!
