Quilt Guilds

A local guild is having and up coming show. They have an open door policy about meetings, they are once a month. Drive wouldn't be too bad. But I hesitate. I know would be a way to make sewing friends maybe. But they are in an upscale part of town at a church and that's one of the things that make me hesitate. It seems like they have some nice lectures and things. What are you experiences with guilds? ------ quiltingwolf.blogspot.com

I was apprehensive as I do not own Bernina...and I've never been a " joiner". However, I went and met awesome quilters of all levels. There is NO pressure to buy Bernina, but it is cool to see the demos. I look forward to the Guild meetings and it gives me the nudge to completion for show n tell. Regardless of the location and assumed membership, you really do not know where they (the members) are from. And if they are true ''believers'' as a church group, they should hold no bias and welcome you warmly into their fold. I think it should be safe to assume they are a friendly group. It's at night right after work. I would have to run home eat quickly and then go. And in the winter it's dark and I'm not a big fan of driving long distances after dark. As for the after work part, that often is the case. Grab a bite and go join it when the days lengthen enough to make you feel better about evenings. I do not like to drive after dark. I'd not like to drive a long distance in the dark either. Too dangerous, as limited visibility and the weather. Could you find a quilting class during the day on a weekend and join that for some fun? I'm hoping to take a short applique class this spring. No details yet of when it will be. I want to learn more and keep thes brain cells moving and growing. ------ Quilting is relaxing to me. Date: 1/3/13 2:38 PM I am as shy and quiet as they come when it comes to social gatherings but once that initial ice is broken, then the social aspect is very important to me. I find much camaraderie in PR and among the ladies of my LQS where I have been working part time... Making the effort to extend yourself to this group will pay off in the end. I totally understand the night time thing but when else could you meet if you work full time? Bring a sandwich or snack... I'd even plan to go directly from work if the time was that tight. I went on a quilt retreat once and the only person I knew was the woman who coordinated the event. I was a bit of an outsider as far as the group was because I was the first one to join them in a few years. The project we started with the Judy Niemeyer - 4th of July so it was a complicated paper piecing project where I was the slowest person in terms of work done... and talk about feeling awkward? That I did. I had figured that I had not really connected with members of this group but since then it seems the ice has melted...
