Quilt Magazines Worth the subscription?

Fons and Porter are IRRITATING as all get out, because they send renewal notices every 2 freakin weeks starting before you even get your first issue. If you can get over that (I ALMOST didn't. I didn't renew until my subscription actually DID run out) it is a great magazine. I also got the McCall's magazine, and I actually like that one better! I also get one on my Nook, but canlt remember the name. Yes I have a TERRIBLE memory!. ------ Cathryn

I don't subscribe to any hardcopy magazines anymore I only have digital subscriptions. I did have a look at quilty magazine I thought that was nice as well.

I have a NOOK HD+, which is very nice for reading magazines, but wondered how it would work for things like magazines where I would want to use a pattern in the future? I guess you archive them and just print out a pattern or use it on your tablet to view while working on a project? Sometimes I am so dense, but I will eventually get it

Nice mix of Modern and Traditional. Every issue has at least one project I want to make. Fons and Porter: each issue is iffy. They are kinda late to the Modern quilt, but trying to catch up. Good that the projects have " ratings", though YMMV. Patterns are actual size. Gerald Roy's editorials are informative and thought provoking. Quilty: a sub pub of Fons and Porter. Very cool! While focus is on Modern Quilting, many nice how- to's for newbies. Good to Better presentation of quilting history and mix of fabrics. Easier pattern don't look "starter". 5 or 6 of their projects are on my radar. Generation Q: a new one, only a few issues out. Focus is on Modern Quilting. Includes projects for kids or teens. Spotting new trends. I was impressed that they had a feature interview and pattern from a male quilt artist. Like it, but it veers dangerously close to " not your mama's...." Quilter's Newsletter: Great source of industry news and photos of award winning quilts. More of a quilting as art form with splashy spreads on art quilts. Quilt alongs are more challenging. One of my fav's. American Patchwork and Quilting: good articles and full sized patterns. Most of the projects are good beginner to intermediate. Just depends on the issue. American Quilter: STUNNING! I love every issue, although I've never done a project- but it gets me in the mood to be quilty. I pick up issues of other magazines occasionally to see if I'd want a subscription, but for the most part, I don't find the same inspiration and I use the internet for most of my project ideas.

You get both copies, paper and digital. I have a Nook tablet, and the quilt mag subscriptions there are not the same as a digital edition you get directly form the magazine, on the NT the subscription is through Barnes and Noble, so you can not go to the magazines website to download the patterns. It may be different with the newer Nook HD. ------ Cathryn

That is something I did not think about when considering these magazines. My friend has offered me some of her old quilt magazines so I'm going the free route! No subscriptions for me.
