Date: 1/4/13 6:24 PM I'm considering a used machine purchase from a lady whose machine is currently there on consignment, and they have serviced it.
Just wondering if they are reputable. It's a Bernina 820. The seller says they'd probably be willing to take photos for me, and give me the stitch count. She says its very low mileage, as she just didn't bond with it.
So,I'm just checking it out and figured I'd ask.
Of course if anyone wanted to swing by there and look at the machine for me, that would be great too! ------ Bernina 730E, 530, and 350PE

Date: 1/5/13 12:04 PM Can't help with your question and hopefully someone will. Will your local dealer service the machine? Have you called the dealership and spoken with staff? That would probably give you a feel for whether or not you would be comfortable dealing with them. |

Date: 1/5/13 3:10 PM I'm a Bernina owner (four of them) and love them. I will say, however, some of the early 800 series had some problems - software, usually, which updates fixed. What sort of warranty would the dealer give you.... Unless you really want the 820, if it is close in price to the new 700 series, I'd buy a 700 series. Check around, but the 700 series seems to have the best of the 800s but NOT the more problematic features. The feed system on the 700s is said to be superior to the 800s.. The new 780 has a dual feed feature, I don't know if the other models do.... A lot depends on what kind of sewing you do.
Have you thought of joining any 800 series Yahoo groups? Lots of info on there.... |

Date: 1/5/13 3:23 PM I've actually been in that shop..
(yeah, I know, where haven't I been....but my father used to own a hotel in Bangor and we visited once and I was bored...)
They seemed nice and friendly, as I recall.
But I didn't buy a machine from them...

Date: 1/5/13 8:16 PM No, I totally forgot to call them, then it got too late! I'll call on Monday as they aren't open tomorrow. Just to see. It's going to be hard to decide between the 7's and 820! They are all awesome machines. ------ Bernina 730E, 530, and 350PE
