12 members like this. Date: 1/7/13 2:41 PM I'm brainstorming a dress for Vogue 1047. I looked for reviews here. There were only a few, but they were very important
Most of the reviews cited an error in the construction/attaching of the skirt. One reviewer said that she contacted Vogue alerting them of the error and that a revised version of the instructions were emailed to her.
I did the same since I bought the pattern several years ago. I emailed Vogue yesterday (a Sunday) and received a response from them today (Monday, the very next day) which INCLUDED an attachment of the revised instructions.
Thank you reviewers, PR and Vogue!!! ------ A bad day in the sewing room is better than a good day at the office.

Date: 1/7/13 5:19 PM As I've been brainstorming patterns for a couple projects, I have been using the reviews to narrow things down between several similar patterns. One of my New Year's resolutions is to write reviews of the things I have been sewing. It does help others and it's time to give back... ------ "We don't see things as they are, we see them as we are." Anais Nin

Date: 1/7/13 5:45 PM Yep. I've been guilty of not posting reviews lately myself. But, they are so helpful! It's nice to have one central place to see how garments turned out and you can help a fellow sewist out and tell them what they can expect. ------ Cidell

1 member likes this. Date: 1/7/13 9:11 PM Reviews here have helped me more than once when trying to make decisions about upcoming projects as well as machine and notions purchases. Pattern Review is my first stop for getting "the scoop".
I really have to get back into the habit of posting reviews -- have 10 or 12 patterns sitting in a basket on my desk that all need to be reviewed for projects from the past year.
This thread may be the push I need to get them done.

Date: 1/7/13 11:05 PM Oh yes She! Me too the first place I come before I buy a potential pattern, shop for a sewing machine or just chat with friendly sewing people who love to sew just like us.
Especially new patterns someone trying to figure out their own * I do not understand this step * Folks that have done that pattern jump right in to help
Thank goodness for this website and all the people that write reviews to help others

Date: 1/8/13 5:42 PM I'm just starting to catch up with writing reviews. I like it when they have pics or if there has been issues a link to a detailed blog post about it. So that's what i try to provide. (it just takes me longer to get the details sorted).
There have been several times ive bought a pattern on strength of detailed reviews. ------ 'The purpose of most fashion is to be ostentatiously non-functional.' |

Since joining PR, I don't think I've ever bought a pattern without first looking at the reviews here. I not only like to know about any issues the pattern (or instructions) might have, but I also like to see how the garment looks on real people. The photos are really helpful for me because it allows me to more easily separate the pattern from the pretty drawing/fabric on the envelope. |
