Date: 1/7/13 8:28 PM I have a New Look pattern (#0117) for my daughter and when I took her measurments she went from a size 10 in the hip to a size 16 in the waist to a size 14 in the bust. I know I need to size the pattern to fit her properly, but where should I start? Should it be her waist, as that is the largest? |

Date: 1/7/13 9:32 PM I woud start with getting the shoulders to fit by using her upper bust measurement as a starting point to select your pattern size, then work your way down, bust alteration if necessary etc.
I haven't sewn a NL pattern for some time but over Xmas break I cut out a dress and a jacket pattern both ran big so check the pattern measurements first.

Date: 1/8/13 4:02 AM I'm different sizes at top and bottom as well. I think the key thing is to get the bust and shoulders fitted perfectly first, so I'd second the first recommendation.
The hips and waist are not that hard to grade up. If the pattern has got those sizes already printed on the tissue paper, just grade out. If not, work out the difference between the last two sizes e.g. if it goes up to 14, the difference between the 12-14, then use that to work out how much extra is needed for the size 16 grading.
One further word of advice, you may find you need to grade out more for the front than the back, or vice versa. So be prepared to take IN after adding - but better to be able to do this then not have ENOUGH fabric to start with!! |

Date: 1/8/13 9:10 AM Thank you! I know the finished pattern measurements are bigger than the measurments needed to size her. I hope she will be happy with it as she's a picky teen |

Date: 1/8/13 9:13 AM Thanks! I am going to tissue fit her first. That should help a lot, I think. I'm sort of nervous! |
