I swear I have the weirdest questions.

I went out of town & picked up supplies, including a light faux suede from Joann's for a hat project - specifically, this hat:

I got home and discovered the faux suede's patina was a bit shinier than I wanted. Now I'm wondering if anyone here knows of a way to dull the surface a bit.

I know this is an odd question but if anyone has any tips, I'd appreciate it!

Do you have a link to the fabric? I'm having trouble imagining any sort of suede being *shiny,* and I'm not 100% sure what you mean by "patina." The ones I've used--including several varieties of microsuede from JoAnn--all have a matte surface and a slight nap.

I think we might have better ideas if we can see the culprit! :D

Thanks for your thoughts!

Yes, you're right--shiny! LOL I do like the aged look, esp. for your Bofur hat (!), so I can see why you picked it.

I might try experimenting--wash it, dry it, run your iron over a scrap or two... leave it somewhere dusty for a few months? LOL

Perhaps a swipe of wet/dry sandpaper in a very fine grit, like 400-600 grade? Its available at paint/hardware stores. I'd just be careful not to overdo it and weaken the fabric too much.

What about brushing it with a suede brush? I have one I use on my boots.
