I've been looking for a source for the pads for cycling pants/shorts. Anyone know a source?

Seattlefabrics.com has some but I don't know if they are the "real" chamois.

It's not a source, but I have long had this excellent tutorial on how to make a chamois bookmarked. She uses polartec with a layer of ultrasuede over it. Her website has supply links, but doesn't specifically say where she got those items. It's an old page, but presumably the business still exists so she might be willing to answer your question.

These were the ones recommended to me for DH -- I haven't bought any yet but he definitely prefers a gel chamois for long distance cycling. If I remember correctly the ones at Seattle Fabrics are not gel -- but I could be wrong as it's been awhile since I looked at them.

When I made cycling pants for my hubby, I used the real Ultra suede...as it washed and dried easily and did not wear out, but actually got softer. The padding that I put inside was just a thin polar fleece. The reason was that it washed well and allowed a little padding, but my guy found that the jell caused too much movement, and he got deep chafing (like an invisible bruise) because of too much movement.

I have used the ones from aero tech and they are great. I've also made one from a layer of thin polartec 100. I don't think my butt needs much padding, so the thickest pad from aero tech, which is what I started out with, was overkill. I bought one of each kind to try them out, and I haven't tried the others yet. But if you know how much padding you want, I would definitely recommend the ready made pads.
