Viking Interlude Thread Tension Issue

As I generally do, I had it serviced before putting it through its paces. The machine seems to sew well...except for the tread tension. I generally test thread tension and the buttonholer first. The top thead consistently pulls up the bobbin thread. When testing on cotton quilting fabric, I have to set the top thread tension to 1 or 1 1/2 to avoid the bobbin thread from being pulled up. So that I know what's going on, I am using contrasting thread. I have three other Vikings and they all sew beautifully, as does the Interlude, with the exception of the tension issue. BTW, the stitch itself looks lovely, but the bobbin thread is definitely being pulled up. Is this normal or to be expected? Is there a way to increase the bobbin tension myself or do I need to send it back for more service? Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated. Cynthia ------ Cynthia

I did so, many times with my previous machine, I guess I just assumed I did with this one also. Having said that I couldn't find any info on how to do it so I think I would definitely talk to a tech. It is possible somebody ran elastic thread or something through it and it needs a tweaking. ------ Formerly The Canadian

He thinks it may be an issue with the bobbin case tension spring - hope it's that simple. I'm going to make a few samples for him to see this weekend and spend time getting to know my other "new to me" Vikings, the Freesia 415 and Daisy 415. BTW, they are all running like a dream. One of the neat things that came out of this experience was I finally read the manual - the caring for your machine section - and learned how to remove and clean the bobbin area! I must have removed, cleaned and examined the bobbin case four times last night, which included removing the stitch plate for the first time. I always viewed removing the bobbin case or venturing too deep in that area as the domain of sewers more experienced than I. Realize now that it's not too complicated, but am still so proud that I now know how to remove the bobbin case and stitch plate. Date: 2/18/13 11:47 AM Got my Interlude back from the Viking technician and it is working beautifully!! It seems the bobbin case was the culprit. Have sewn on some test fabric and the tension is just lovely and perfect. Now to sew a few garments and review my "new to me" Interlude. ------ Cynthia
