I'm doing the BOM 2012 quilt class and they want a 12 1/2 ruler. JoAnns had 2 different kinds. Are they the same thing?

I think the green ones may have a non-skid finish on them.

I like the yellow lines better...

But I use THIS TAPE from Amazon on the backsides to keep them from being slippery.

On my radar someday: Babylock Serger, and some machine for travel.

My dearest wish is to have Bernina come out with a machine that doesn't give me a reason to *not* buy it.

I don't know of anything called "omnigreen" but if you're talking about OmniGrip I don't like them as well as the regular Omnigrid. I find the lines to be too fat and I have difficulty seeing through them to line up with the fabric. YMMV

I like crative grids. The Omni's neon yellow colors are hard on my eyes. For repetitive cuts I usually use a post-it ones on the ruler anyway as a guide line.

That is a great idea, the post its. That way you don't have to keep looking at the lines. I have two yellow omnis and I much prefer my pink Fisker's one

If you do not already have this size ruler, buy the one that will not "disappear" on your cutting mat.

I would use one of these, but then I would not be teacher's favorite.

Just provide what they want and don't make waves.

I have never taken a class, but from what I have read there is a push for this and that product when you may already have products that work just as well.

I see what you are saying about the neon green mark being too wide and maybe getting off on the cut. I did like the yellow Omni ruler. I went back and watched parts of both BOM 2012 and 2013 classes. I also liked the creative something ruler. My husband made me a template but we made it 12 x 12 and not 12 1/2 We could make another template...

I really wanted to get one today, but I think I will wait a bit.
Thank you so much. These are my first quilting classes.

I just got one of these for Christmas and MAN do I LOVE IT!!!!

I got it just in time to cut out the million and a half pieces for the Bonnie Hunter mystery quilt. It is SERIOUSLY AWESOME for cutting large quantities FAST!!

HAHhaa....yes, I spent quite a bit on one of those slippery pad things to put under the machine presser foot and bed to quilt better and I had my teeth gritted because it was a requirement for a class and that was starred in the write up. Well, I ended up forgetting to bring it, and no one said anything and i didn't need it or several other things that were supposedly required. I have never used it.I did try it and didn't care fot it.

Add to that the fact that when you take a class, except for school of some sort that matters, there is no grade, there is no failing or getting tossed into the snow so who cares?! Bring what you like to use. That will be my Mantra next time and I won't spend 40+ on stuff I don't really need. Look at it this way: Where there is no penalty, compliance is optional.
