I am fairly certain it takes exp format. I have a 180, but rarely embroidered with it as I found it so cumbersome. I could no longer use the cable from the computer to the machine, so I used a magic box to take files off the computer or cd and write them to the card.
I hope someone has a more definite answer for you!

Find a couple free downloads and choose .art for one and .exp for the other. Then you will know before making a purchase.
Most downloads will be zipped. You have to open the file and then save. The saved file is what you will be using.

Then, e-mails were written on paper and put in weird paper things called envelopes and the postal system delivered them. This was slow. Finally, e-mail as we know it came around."

do you still use your Magic Box?
If so, what operating system do you use it with?
I bought one and have never used it, and now my dealer tells me that it works only with really old versions of Windows. Vista, I think.
Thanks for any Magic Box light you can shed,

The 180 uses .art files. Until recently (when I got my new 780E!) I still used my 180 with my Windows 7 laptop and either Artlink or Bernina V6 software. You need a USB to Serial Port cable to connect the computer to the machine. These can be found at Radio Shack or Best Buy. I never had the Magic Box or card reader for my 180 so I can't speak on how they work.
