Anything you use? Fabric softener spray?
I have carpet and need a portable heater in the winter, so that doesn't help.
Threads cling to everything and I get shocks.

Most build up is from scooting on plastic wheeled chairs on carpet or scuffing certain shoe bottoms on the carpet. Perhaps one of those desk mats under your chair- and walk in your stocking feet! Oh, I can see the pins I'd "find" from my floor now!

I have the same problem in fact I posted about it a while back. My guru tech dealer said to spray static guard all around. Now I keep a can in my sewing room. he said it should work for 6 months or so. That has worked! Plus I always touch something metal with the tip of my index finger before I touch the machine.

I have big problems with static in my studio -- no carpet just laminate flooring. I blame it on the resin tables and will be replacing them later on this spring. I have tried static guard and it only helps for a very short period of time. The fact that I work with mostly nylon/spandex and poly/spandex blends probably doesn't help things at all.

I thought getting rid of the carpet a few years ago would alleviate the problem but it hasn't really made a difference. It's definitely worse in the winter when everything is closed up and the furnace is running regularly.

I thought we were talking about husbands encroaching on our territory.

Suddenly, I'm happy to live with Florida humidity. So far, THIS kind of static hasn't been a problem, even when the AC is running....for 10 months out of the year.

My husband is not allowed in my sewing room. He built it for me...now he can't come in. he can peek in...that's it. I did need something done in my room and he had to cut some paper.....I've trained him well...even though there were umpteen scissors lying about he went to the kitchen for the scissors to cut the paper!!!!
Back to static...
I can sometimes see the electricity shooting from my hand....and it hurts!!!

there are special mats you can get to eliminate it we have ones for the office. apparently if you build up enough and you touch electronic equipment you can damage it.
