elastic--twisting/curling? braided?

I've never had a problem with the elastic "rolling" and so I'm wondering if it is because it's braided (I think it is braided. I bought it off ebay and it was from a lot so it wasn't really labeled.) I'm guessing based on what it looks like. The elastic is 1/4 inch and after it was sewn into the knit, the whole thing keeps trying to turn (so the elastic side ends up face out in parts of the fabric.) I don't think I pulled the elastic too tight. But it turns in several spots. I'm going to do another one and I don't want to use the same elastic if it is causing the problem. ------ I don't sew, I just shout and plead with fabric. Sometimes something wearable results. Ive seen a big difference in how it behaves just between brands and quality. You could try a wide zig-zag stitch that is the entire width of the elastic or two narrow stitches along each edge. If your machine has a stretch stitch you might try that as well. That might help...or it might not. Try some different stitches and different amounts of stretching the elastic on some scraps.

I haven't used this brand before (I don't even know what brand it is) but the small batches I was buying in walmart never gave me any trouble. I wondered if it was because it was running a bit cross grain along the knit, but both sides do that--the one side has the older stuff I was using and the other doesn't. It's noticeably different on the new side. But I didn't pull the same either... This sewing stuff is hard. ------ I don't sew, I just shout and plead with fabric. If so, it's braided. What area are you stitching it too? If the elastic is trying to flop out, that often means you didn't pull it tight enough. ------ My grandmother taught me to sew when I was 10, and I've been sewing ever since.

I think it is braided (gets narrower). I'm trying to sew it into a knit. I think part of the problem is that I didn't get the knit far enough over the top--the elastic is sticking out in some places (unevenly sewn in and so it pulls some of the material "over").
