Quilting Tables Not the $$$ ones :-)

After looking at some Beautiful tables and then the price I LOVE this idea :-) So do you think this would also work? Quilting Table DIY ------ I have great enthusium for sewing, but lack talent to be great. 2013

The main one the exposure to the insulation and what it's made of. It is a building material not really designed to be used like that. I don't see why you couldn't do the same with a very firm form rubber. I have though seriously though of buying of those foldable tables. I have the table they sell at Joanns I brought years ago and it's heavy and it's falling apart. Missing a screw so it's gotten wobbly. But then too, you have that plastic cover. When I was redoing my room, years ago, I considered something like this set up, but I couldn't stand the sound when she put her hands on the insulation; it sounded like an ice chest opening--like fingernails on a chalkboard. Couldn't think of sewing with this sound! What I can suggest is to buy the table she has, and then buy an extension table made specifically for your machine. These are made of plexiglass and are fabulous. A sewing shop near me makes them, as long as you give them the model number. ------ "We don't impose our rhythm on Nature. Date: 1/13/13 12:35 PM It seemed to me this was something she designed that she would do herself and cheaply. Unfortunately a lot of older woman have this problem. Whether no husband or disabled husband as in my case. Cos none of this is heavy stuff to drag home. The table most of us could manage to drag home. You could do the same thing in wood but would need someone with a jigsaw to cut out the part around the machine etc. You could still tack it with the plastics or even a vinyl table cloth to make it look nicer. ------ quiltingwolf.blogspot.com

Date: 1/13/13 6:48 PM Yes, my thoughts too -- designed to be Easy enough for women to pretty much do themselves (no hubby, disabled or mechanically challenged like mine haha) I sent him the link and he asked if Foam would be ok -- I don't think so because wouldn't the weight of the quilt push the foam down when trying to quilt? His great idea was "what about a clear plastic top" Gee honey that would be Amazing (didn't say they already make those for our quilting machine)... Yep a smart wife always let's her man "think" of just the idea SHE wants :-) Ok with a few mods to the icky styrofoam sounding stuff, I think this can be done pretty cheap. I've seen those tables and even researched them, although I didn't buy. You could "improve" it by adding more plexiglass or some kind of larger table, custom fitted to what you want. Your thoughts about the quilt pushing the weight of the foam down are right on. Also, the weight of the quilt might make the foam move more. I really love the idea of the lightweight foam. You would be surprised how many products off gas- including new flooring so i dont see it as a hazard. I set new products on the porch for days or weeks and when they are done off gassing bring them in. What I love is how lightweight it is. DH made me a top from plywood and years later from vinyl or pressed board but age really has limited what I can handle. I also have 2 of those portable tables- one is 10 yrs old and one is 7 years old and both held up over 2 moves and lots of use by me and family borrowing. So yes, I think it has a place. I think I may use it to build up layers and raise my folding table to cutting height- cover it with canvas and place my cutting mats on top. I also could place it on top of my current cabinet to expand a few inches on either side when I need it for larger projects. But you have apoint about the ice chest sound- that wouldnt work unless I covered it. So may not be for everyone but it is another idea. -- Edited on 1/14/13 6:01 AM -- ------ re-living my youth through sewing...
