Help! Jeans top stitch thread

This is a thicker type of thread. My bobbin keeps jamming. I'm using a size 14 needle, I've loosened my tension, and I'm using a long stitch (4.5) I'm also using regular thread in the bobbin. PattiAnnJ   Advanced OH USA Member since 12/3/06 Posts: 4980	Login to reply to this post Like this post Date: 1/13/13 3:53 PM Test a size 16 jeans needle on scraps of the fabric, folded to mimic the same as what you would be top stitching.. Hold onto the thread tails as you begin the stitching, or butt a scrap of fabric up to the fabric and start sewing on the scrap and on to the fashion fabric. I have always used C & C jeans thread and occasionally had the same issue.

It has a longer eye and deeper groove so the thread doesn't catch. I use YLI Jeans Thread that is a 30wt. but I don't know how it compares in thickness to Gutermman. Also go into the creative consultant and tell the machine what you are doing...it changes the settings for you. I know I can't use the thick stuff but didn't know if there was something else I should be using. And the underside of my stitching looks horrible! My top thread is showing through and has little loops which would indicate my tension is too loose. I completely forgot about the topstitch needle. And I'm still learning to use the features on the 730. Date: 1/13/13 4:20 PM Use the size 14 topstitch needle, C&C Jeans Thread or Sulky Blendables (30 wt) in the top, and regular Mettler poly in the bobbin. I like to put a little silicon lubricant on the needle (or the thread). Make sure you bring the bobbin thread to the top, and hold both threads to begin the stitching so they don't pull underneath the stitch plate and get tangled.
