Subject: Sewing Related Podcasts Date: 1/14/13 10:17 AM

I have an ipod, had it for years but just thought of sewing podcasts. I found a few. But I found them rather shelf indulgent. What I'm doing, why I'm so special etc etc. Any podcasts out there that talk about sewing, quilting issues or problems etc? I did find one where she gave the history of sewing patterns that I found quite interesting. That's the kind of stuff I'm looking for. I'm not a fan girl, never have been and on a blog I don't really care to hear about your life unless I personally know you etc. Same reason I don't get into blogs, even though I have one more for therapy for me then anyone else. My daughter got me an ipod dock/speaker for Christmas so nice to listen to while sewing, or when exercising, nice change from the usual music I listen to.

I don't care for blogs as well.

You probably have already checked the YouTube offerings. Most of the sewing and quilting grues now want a membership fee.

Fons & Porter's Quilty is free (I just can't stand the goofiness of Mary Fons (not Marianne, Mary the daughter). Sewing With Nancy has TV videos you can watch for free).

Do you have a link for the one about the history of sewing patterns? I would like to see this one, and there may be others here at PR who just a curious.

I wasn't talking about stuff to watch. I was talking about podcasts that you listen to, no video.

History of sewing patterns

I think this was her as well on the podcast. don't remember her name.

I don't know if they're archived anywhere or even if this is what your looking for, however Tim Gunn from Project Runway did pod casts early on in the series. It was his take on the weeks show and I always found it entertaining. I always enjoyed his sense of humor.

Yes I found that one. This topic should have been called Sewing related Podcasts not blogs. Sorry for the confusion. Yeah she was the one who had the pattern history.

Sewing is such a visual subject I can see why it would be hard to have a podcast other than one that perhaps would discuss sewing in a fashion related sense. To discuss how to sew a lapped zipper, etc, could be difficult without actually seeing it. I do realize there is much to discuss from "fast fashion" to recycling but is that actual sewing?

As far as blogs there are many, many excellent sewing blogs that you will learn a great deal from. They are not all "self indulgent" and most good ones are not a daily diatribe of their life. I think to ignore this learning opportunity is missing the boat. I would venture that the ratio of really good strictly sewing blogs is huge compared to sewing podcasts. Just my 2 pennies worth.

I've been sewing for 35 years not really looking to learn anything. This wasn't really about blogs anyway as I stated but podcasts. Wanted something sewing related to listen to while I exercise and sew. And there are quite a few out there. And podcasts these days aren't just audio as the ipods and iphones can get video. As far as blogs go why take the time to read about what someone else doing I would rather spend that time doing my own sewing. Now sewing and quilting teachers and friends that is different or people's work I look at an go wow that's something interesting to read about. I'm talking about the avg person's blog.
