I made a muslin of V8333 - a beautiful Claire Schaeffer tailored jacket. The only fitting problem with it is that I can't lift my arms without everything riding up! Usually I wouldn't have a problem with raising the armscye, but this is the first time I have needed to do so on a pattern the uses princess seams and a side panel. More than anything it is the side panel throwing me off. Any pointers?

I had a custom tailored jacket made with side panels and he brought the shoulders out past my shoulder joint about an inch or so and used shoulder pads and I can move arms just fine. I had a long silk dress done at the same time. He put side panels in it as well but the shoulder seam is right where it should be matching my shoulder joint. The entire dress side rides up when I even half lift my arm.
Not sure what is going on but I suspect a relationship to that shoulder seam placement. Perhaps you can extend it off your shoulders a bit?
