I'm looking to purchase a new serger. Mine died. I'm looking at the Pfaff 4874, but am wondering how hard it is to use. I've serged for years and made most of my clothes, swimsuits, etc. Should I be looking at others? I want the best. I live in Lake Havasu City, AZ. and there are NO dealers here. The closest ones are 3 hours away. Are lessons a must? Anyone out there that could give me some feedback? Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Babylock Enlighten. Bestest serger wver, imo!

Or if you want a combination serger/coverstitch machine, the Babylock Evolution.

I heart Panzy, Pfaff Creative Performance, the sewing machine love of my life! And Rupert (Pfaff 2023), Baby (BL Enlighten), Victor (BLCS), Ash (Bernina 350SE), Pal (Bernina 530), Kee (Bernina 750) and the Featherteen Flock!

Most of all, I heart Woo (HimmyCat). Until we meet again, my beautiful little boy. I love you.

I agree with Lynn. Babylock is the way to go.
Pricey, but oh so worth it; no tension settings to mess with AND the jet air threading is awesome.

I have a pfaff 4872 serger that I've had for over a decade. I've taken it in for service once, last summer, the entire time I've had it. No problems. I find it very easy to use and switch back and forth between overlocking and coverstitching. Depending on what type of serger you've used in the past, you shouldn't have any difficulty beyond the initial transition.

I have the pfaff 4874 machine. It is alot of machine. I've never had mine in and it's been about 6 years now. I use it all the time. Never had any trouble. It is the high end of the sergers. If the price is right go for it.
