Date: 1/18/13 9:35 PM I think (?) my desktop might have a virus. Here's why. The other day I (dumb, dumb, dumb! I know!) clicked on a link in an email a friend sent. No text...just link. Took me to someplace weird selling some natural something-or-other supposedly. She group-emailed her whole address book saying so sorry, her email got hacked. I thought nothing of it as we have this Norton antivirus, anti-everything protection on our computer, always updating. But....since that day, my computer has been s..l..o..w..slower than the proverbial molasses. I've run a scan from Norton and it says ok but what do you think? Is there some free thing on the internet I could run that could find and zap any virus? Or is it a coincidence that it slowed down the same day I clicked that link? |

Date: 1/18/13 10:06 PM Same thing happened to me, and I had Norton. Then my computer crashed. Apparently, Norton didn't pick up the malware (or the hacker is familiar with Norton's framework that they could corrupt it) and everything ran slow then crashed. When I got my computer out of the shop, the tech guy had AVG on it; much better than Norton, he said. ------ "We don't impose our rhythm on Nature. The key is to respect and live within Her." Date: 1/18/13 10:11 PM Uh-oh. That doesn't sound good. Maybe I ought to mosey over to AVG's site and see if I can order it online and if perhaps that would be a preventative.
Thanks for the tip!
No moseying....more like running. |

Date: 1/18/13 10:31 PM If it's malware as Miss Fairchild had download this program and run a full scan. It's a free program (Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware) and I've been using it for a number of years.
This is Adaware. It's really good at deleeting bad cookies that could be slowing you down. If you download that one run a full scan also.
After you run both of those at full scans then all you really need after that is to do quick scans.
Just a couple things you can try to maybe catch something that shouldn't be there.

Date: 1/18/13 11:56 PM Thank you Debbie! I didn't know of those two programs. I haven't been very computer tech-y heretofore, but I do like this opportunity to become a bit more proficient with the computer. I figure, Hey, I can persist with sewing, so I can just do the same thing with this computer. |
