Date: 1/19/13 11:16 AM I love listening to audiobooks whilst I sew or clean or anything else that is kind of repetitive. I exclusively download from our local library using the Overdrive Media Console service. My computer is a PC, and my current MP3 is acting up.
Do you have any recommendations for devices that have good bookmarking etc for audiobooks. I might throw a tune on there or something, but it wouldn't be the primary purpose. It MUST be portable. Nothing as big as a tablet. I am on the move always in the house.

Date: 1/19/13 11:23 AM ME TOO!!!! I bought a Sansa MP3 and it is so proprietary it does not work with library downloads. My librarian suggested some ipod gizmo. It is on my list to visit the apple store. I cannot believe the technology...this tiny tiny gizmo to stick in your pocket and have tons of books downloaded on it from the library. I am anxious to hear what suggestions you get because I want to know too!!!! GREAT QUESTION! Thank you!
PS..I also love books on tape while sewing and cleaning...and pretty much everything . If it requires concentration then a bit of Mozart is a must.

Date: 1/19/13 5:19 PM I have used an ipod nano and a classic for audio and podio books. I have 9 books on mine at the moment (including the massive Song of Ice and Fire series) and that is only 2.5Gig, so you may not need one with a huge capacity. I use an alarm clock with a mp3 dock in the sewng room, so I can listen to books or music using headphones, and when I sit down in the sewing room I just put the ipod on the dock and press 'resume' and it starts again from where I left off.
Not sure if you have tried them, but iTunes have free audiobooks by up and coming, and generally unublished, authors as podcasts. They upload a chapter a week; some are great, some not so much. If you search podiobooks they will come up. There is also the 'Classic Tales' podcast which has classic books in podcast form which I use too. (It's currently doing the wizard of oz) NAYY ------

Date: 1/19/13 6:23 PM I have an 8G Itouch. I also download audiobooks from Overdrive through my public library. I also have an adapter for the car so I can listen in the car. I most recently inherited (my son left it unattended one day) a CD player with a plug in for my itouch, I put that in my sewing room:).
I love it! Easy peasy to transfer but I do have a small issue, depending on the format it sometimes goes to the music library instead of the audiobook library. Not a big deal but I do have to look through my itouch to find it.
I would have liked an 16G but I can't say it has been a problem. I usually have 3 books on at a time, along with quite a few songs, pictures and several apps.
I also have the iphone which would do the same thing but I find it uses more battery (unless it is plugged into some kind of charging station) I prefer my phone to always be charged so like that this is separate. ------

Date: 1/19/13 6:59 PM I use a Coby mp3 player i got from amazon. less than $20, battery lasts forever, easy to transfer music and books from computer to gizmo. small, lightweight, lets me see what i'm playing (digital display)

Date: 1/20/13 11:35 AM I use my ipad but second choice would be my phone, then go to my ipod nano.
ETA - I bought some bluetooth speakers on the advice of my DD. They are made by Gear4 and would be really great to go with an mp3 player or phone. They charge with a USB and I can carry them all over my house without having to move the ipad. The most important thing is they sound great and they are loud enough to play over the sound of the serger.  They were on sale at best Buy over the holidays and were around $50.

Do you get a message when you go into the Overdrive media program and try transfering books to your MP3 player?
I have the same problem with some of the downloads going to the wrong place. Not really a problem, but annoying non the less.
I need a docking station where you can listen to the book w/o earbuds. My tinnitus has been really loud lately and using earbuds makes it worse. ------
