Darts edges don't match

So, I'm sewing this chikdren's top with bust darts. (I've never seen bust darts in childrens clothing!) The thing is, the outer edges of these darts don't match! After you sew the darts, the part that's below the darts on side seam is longer than the top of the darts. So when I sew the side seams, I pinned according to the top of the darts, because it follows the armhole curve, and just cut off the extra fabric at the below the darts. Is this a pattern error, or am I doing something wrong?

I don't know why there would be darts in children's clothing. Darts add shaping etc and children usually do not need that. I am not picturing what you mean. Did you split this dart and press open? I don't do that. I was taught to press and press the dart down the side seam. There usually isn't anything to match the dart to-there should be notches that match up on the side seam-that is what needs to match. It shouldn't matter if the dart is sewn in the right place and pressed open. If my child didn't need it, I would probably pinch that out on the pattern piece before cutting out-of course that depends on the pattern and the child. Not sure if this helps?

When it's sewn together (taped in this case) See how the edges of the darts don't match at the side seams? I don't know if it's ok to just cut the extended part. And yup, isn't it weird that thet have darts on childrens clothes? Suggestions also welcomed on how to take out those darts.

It looks way off to me. What pattern is this? Well you can do what you did in the picture and just put the edges of the pattern together. There is something wrong with the side seam. Subject: Darts edges dont match Date: 1/21/13 1:52 PM The only thing I can think of is that this was suppose to be a gather detail. It is a weird place for gathers. Did you check your tracing to make sure you didn't jump to a different size? Could be a drafting error also. ------ www.lolitapatterns.com

I wish I did this post before I finished it by cutting the extra... It looked too tight, so I knew there was something wrong. Now this goes to a wadder pile... I guess patterns are (mostly) always made right. BTW this is Sophia pattern from BurdaStyle downloadable. The instruction was pretty much nonexistant... It just said "sew darts". And there weren't much reviews on it, and nobody mentioned this issue.

I was gonna take it apart and make something else that I can squeeze out of this fabric. I gathered the bottom and it looks much better, but now the hem length didn't match. I guess there was something wrong. If not one thing it's another... But this already had a long hem so it wasn't that bad even if I cut off the extra.
