Help converting snake quilt into traditional HST

The instructions show the measurements to cut the half square triangle for the snake using the company's product. However, how can I translate this pattern using the traditional method of making half square triangles? Inches make no sense to me (and cm might not to you) but you can measure it yourself by drawing two triangles of the desired size on a paper, trace around them at the distance of your seam with, put them together in a square and measure the sides. I do this with all my students in class, whether they are making 2" HST's or 14" ones. It got too confusing with them for the 7/8" inch extra, so I told them to round it up to 1". Edited to add: All the books say 7/8", as Saya recommended, but when you're trying to get the point across as to "finished" or "unfinished" with older students, you go around in different ways. Date: 1/24/13 4:43 PM To tell you the truth I use this product all the time and I really like it. I have no affiliation but I find that these triangles keep me accurate and I have less waste. They do add a small amount of cost to each project and unfortunately the price of the rolls just went up. But quilting is not always the cheapest of activities. ETA: Please understand that I am not trying to tell you what to do. Everyone works differently and has different needs. I really like these, but probably other people don't. Some people prefer Thangles. Other people probably don't want any aids and just cut from strips or blocks. To each her/his own. -- Edited on 1/24/13 4:49 PM -- ------ Barb
