Ive decided to move the girls room upstairs into my son's room. and reclaim (once again and hopefully finally) my sewing space....
its currently a salmon color.... Im supposing I need something more neutral as it wont affect how I view the colors of various fabrics..
Suggestions? ------ http://mamazsewingescapadez.blogspot.com/ |

Date: 1/22/13 1:56 PM I'm going out on a limb and say that your lighting will affect how you see colors much more than your wall color. So I'll say paint it a color you love, and get really good lighting. Colors will change under daylight/floresent/incandesant/LED, so after the projects are done and out in the world, they might not look as they do in your sewing room anyway.
(says I who has been known to be wearing 1 black sock and 1 navy sock. They both looked black by incandesant room light!) |

Date: 1/22/13 2:20 PM Well my hubby will only paint white so I accessorize in colors. I really like the look of one dark wall and the others light. ------ Elna Excellence 740, Pfaff Quilt expression 4.0, Janome 300E, Brother 8500D, Janome 900CPX CoverPro, Brother 5234 Project Runway Serger, Singer Treadle

Date: 1/22/13 3:35 PM You know, white or a very neutral gray might be a good idea. I have found that in my rooms that have color on the walls (specifically, my daughter's pink bedroom) that other items in the room take on a cast of the walls from reflected light, e.g. even a shirt that I know is white looks pinkish. It could really cause some problems if you were trying to do color matching. I have walls that are Behr "Manhattan Mist" in my sewing room, and if I had the time I probably would repaint them a lighter shade for more reflected light. HTH. |

If you have nice big windows and get lots of daylight, this won't be as much of an issue as in a smaller room mostly lit by artificial light. If you look in the Sewing Spaces photos thread (page 52), Viviette just posted pix of her room with two lavender walls--it's gorgeous, and she clearly gets plenty of sunshine so the purple doesn't put a cast over everything else. :)------ ~Gem in the prairie |

Date: 1/22/13 5:29 PM I love Benjamin Moore's Antique White. It is a soft butter yellow. I have it in 3 rooms in my house--so easy to live with. The lighting is different in each room but it's always a pleasure for me to look at. |

Picking a paint color is true torture.. right up there with weddings in my book..
At least now they do have sample jars.. I would make use of them if you can Mom.
I pretty much just paint white when undecided.. then if I do find a color later.. I have a clean palette/base to paint over with no other color bleedthru.. |

It feels sunlight-like and I find no color distortion or other annoying attributes. And I hate yellow as a color for anything and everything else....
A previous pale gray room always felt cold and unwelcoming, especially when sewing at night, my usual time. |
