Hi -
I'm use a Brother xl2600i (which I love) to sew with. I need to make buttonholes for a dress. Does anyone have this machine? What does your buttonhole foot look like? Does it have a bracket on the side to keep it in place? I'm asking because my buttonhole foot is missing the bracket and I can't stitch with it because it won't stay still. Am I missing something here? Is there another technique? This is the only machine I have. Even the manual and the website says there should be a bracket on the side - I asked my mother to check hers (which she hasn't used yet) and hers is the same as mine, no bracket on the side. I don't get it?

Please help!
My blog has a picture of my machine Jenny Sews

Is this your machine and a picture of that buttonhole foot - do you have that foot?

If not, I think you might contact Brother on their website, and have a look at the manual pictures too.

What do you mean by "bracket?" If it is the pull down lever, you might really need to look in the manual and see what your instructions say about that.

I have a Brother - the LX2500 (which I love as well - Brother's make their machines so user-friendly). It is similar to yours, but doesn't have the 1-step buttonhole yours has (mine takes 4 steps). But my buttonhole foot basically looks like the picture of the foot in that link to your Brother on Amazon's page, that Mufffet linked to above. What part of your foot is missing?

Thank you!

I think I just figured it out - The manual shows a buttonhole foot with two of those tabs on the side but the accessories page on amazon shows the one tab - which once I put a button on that end would adjust itself to the size of the button; which means that's the only tab I need? Sorry still about confused but Im going to try it and see if that works.

Thanks for your response!

yes, hmmm, in the manual - it shows two tabs on the side but I see here on amazon that there is indeed only one tab - I think that means I put the button in one end and use that tab? I'll try that - last time I tried it wouldn't hold steady - maybe I need to change the pressure on the feed dogs?
Thanks for responding - I'll contact Brother too for an explanation. The one step buttonhole thing was supposed to be easy!

Jenny,

Here's a Youtube video showing features of your machine. It demonstrates making a buttonhole at minute 1:10. It is in another language (Russian I think), but it is so visibly demonstrated, that it doesn't really make any difference. I also went to Brother's website and read through the pages of the manual for the 2600i (here) and it described exactly what is being demonstrated in the video. Maybe this would make it more clear somehow...

If you do contact Brother, I think you will have excellent customer service. I've contacted them on a number of occasions and they are super helpful and detailed in their advice and help.

Just wondering if you had any reply from Brother or figured out if you can use the buttonhole foot?

My buttonhole foot won't move at all. It will just stitch in the same place over and over again. I keep reading the instructions and even found a video with someone using the same foot and similar machine but my foot still won't move. Here is the video. Hope it helps someone. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GDVH_Jr3IrA

Chika,

Have you contacted your local dealer, or the manufacturer, or a sewing machine repair shop? How old is your machine? Has the buttonhole foot ever worked, or has it been this way since you bought the machine? Hoping you're able to resolve this!
