Date: 1/26/13 11:42 AM I know what I like, but I'm not sure what it's called. I always thought it was a boatneck. I do like that style and I though that it what it was called based on a top that I bought that called it a boatneck, but there is another neckline that I really like and I don't know if it's called a jewel neck or a ballet neck.
are there any pictures out there that compare the 3? next - are there any patterns anyone can think of offhand that have those necklines?
thanks,

The ballet neckline looks like a wide scoop neck.

Date: 1/26/13 1:25 PM The original boat neck is a dead straight line from shoulder to shoulder across the base of the neck.
It looks like this.
Very few patterns these days are drafted with this neckline, apart from the recently out of print Betzina Vogue 1049, reviewed here at pr, and the
Sondy Top pattern, which is bateau-necked in front (the back has a cowl). In fact, the design is so rare as to be almost unknown and is generally now confused with a 'ballet neck,' which is has a shallow curved shape.
Other old examples of a true boat neck are Butterick 5195 or 5196 (same patt, different numbers), and Vogue 9854, view A, and Jalie 2005,
view 2.

Date: 1/28/13 9:24 AM I guess the jewel neckline is out. I LOVE the first one which looks kinda like the ballet neck, so I guess that is what I need to look for.
thanks!
