I droped the feed dogs on my New Home/Janome Memory Craft 6000, but now cannot get them to raise back up. Anyone have any ideas about what might be wrong and how to fix?

Have you checked the manual to see if there is a certain configuration that is needed before the change?

Is there a stitch setting for free motion that may need to be changed?

On Janomes they will come back up automatically when you start stitching a regular stitch again. Or turn it off and back on again.

I was going to say the same thing as QuiltingWolf. If you turn the handwheel toward you they will pop back up too. I thought the same thing the first time I lowered mine. Hope this works!

Thanks for the replies, but I checked the manual and there was no information or trouble shooting regarding this problem. I had also, already tried turning the machine off and back on again, as well as trying to stitch using various stitch selections. Nothing worked. Finally, my DH tore the machine apart and got the feed dogs up, so that I can sew again, but should I switch it to lowering the feed dogs, they have to be raised by prying with a screw driver and turning the hand wheel for a few "stitches" for them to stay up. Needless to say, there is an internal problem and until I take the machine in for a "tune up", I will just NOT lower the feed dogs.

It this a new machine if so you shouldn't be prying it open take it to your dealer for service. You may have done more harm then good.

Turning the handwheel towards you, usually for a full stitch popped the feed dogs up on my last Singer as well as my Necchi. I was convinced the Necchi was broken because the feed dogs wouldn't come up, and posted here about it. Folks suggested the same thing to me and-thank god-it worked. The manual has nothing about it at all. Now my current Singer does specify it, turn the feed dog lever and put the handwheel through a full turn. If you haven't tried it, I would. Even if the manual says nothing about it, I doubt it would hurt the machine, and it might just work.

I sure would not tell them you opened it to check things out. It might be enough to void the warrantee.

I am a Quilter at heart. I love to play with fabrics, patterns and colors. Recently I have discovered I enjoy doing applique. I love making pictures. Using a sewing machine is much easier than counted cross stitch or oil painting for me. I enjoy landscape quilting as well. I am working on my first applique project in the spring of 2014.
