I am making a messenger bag (the Melford Messenger from Charlie's Aunt). I want to use canvas as the main fabric and a piece of vintage kimono silk/wool for the accent. I don't think I should use iron on interfacing on the kimono, what should I use?
I would really appreciate any advice! |

Ages ago when fabric was sold in department stores, there wasn't such a thing as interfacing and the seamstress used the fashion fabric or muslin as the stabilizer.

Date: 1/28/13 5:23 PM Depending on what look you want I would look at silk organza, cotton broadcloth or muslin, or cotton flannel. I also avoid iron on interfacing on vintage fabrics. |

Date: 1/28/13 10:35 PM Thank you all so much! I have some Silk organza and some flannel, I think I will experiment with each. The pattern suggests that lighter fabrics might even have a layer of cotton batting added.
I am so glad I asked for your advice.
I remember when they actually sold fabric in department stores, I used to hide among the bolts...drove my mom nuts,
