Hello, all. This may be a silly question, but what do you use to mark up your dress form? I want to be able to identify my shoulder width and armscye (for a sleeveless top) on my form. I sometimes see what looks like blue tape (painter's tape?) on dress forms, but it is much narrower than the painter's tape I am used to seeing. Any ideas?

I think some people use narrow ribbon.

Draping Tape

I haven't used it. I have used what I assume is a similar product for marking quilts.

Goodworks1: Ribbon sounds good because I know I' ll be able to (re)move it.

Andye:The draping tape looks like what I have seen being used. Would the quilting tape be repositionable/removable?

Thank you both for the quick response.

Staples or other office supply stores have an eighth inch kind of vinyl tape that is not real sticky that I used on my form. I pin it in pace after sticking it on. I believe it is for drafting purposes and I bought blue, red, and black in a package.

I've placed several strips of 1" wide painters tape on my cutting board and then cut them into 1/4" strips and use that -- I use this on my dress forms for creating design lines and I also use it on my finished designs (skating dresses, dance costumes, etc) to outline the embellishment lines.

If it's going to be a longer term project, I will pin in strategic places but for the most part I find that the tape sticks well enough and when removed doesn't leave any residue.

I always have the painter's tape around as I use it when I'm making patterns (along with the painter's drop cloth plastic).

I bought it because it claims to leave no residue. the consistency is sort of like masking tape; the glue like artists tape

Either draping tape or for something a little more permanent, pin 1/4" wide twill tape to your dress form.
