marking pattern tools tailors chalk or wheel and tracing paper

I bought tailors chalk. I also have wheel. Which is better for me? Also do the marks go on right or wrong side? thank you Judy

I've not used a wheel in a very long time. For light colors, I usually use a water soluable pen (you can find those in the notions department at the fabric store). For dark colors, I use tailors chalk -- if the chalk does not show up well on a fabric, then I use a little sliver of dried bar soap. I generally mark the wrong side of the fabric unless it's necessary to mark the right side to place a pocket, or button hole, etc. Your project will dictate which side you mark.

Date: 1/29/13 2:47 PM I absolutely love the Pilot Frixion pens, available at office supply stores. I use the fine ballpoint and it works like a dream for marking seam allowances, darts, circles, etc. Light heat from your iron will remove any trace of the mark. I've used them successfully on all types of fabric, including delicate silks.
