Is the extended facing, aka, placket, folded like an accordian? Or is it folded in a roll fashion, such as over and over, rather than over and under.
Also, how many of you use two pieces of folded fabric, instead of just the one folded many times? Can you point me to some more tutorials? (I'd like to be able to print the notes to take to my sewing room as I don't have a laptop)
Also, do you topstitch on the outside edges? Does the placket blow open, exposing the buttons in a windstorm? Not that it would matter to me, but I want to be sure how it's assembled. ------ "We don't impose our rhythm on Nature. The key is to respect and live within Her." Jean-Charles Boisset, Winemaker

Date: 1/28/13 1:33 PM Your question piqued my interest. I have a basic idea of what a hidden placket is and how it works, but I also am rather fuzzy on how one would sew it.
I found this amazing video (How To Create Hidden Button Shirt Plackets) that explains it all, even stuff I hadn't thought about (making the under placket slightly narrower than the top placket) and the nuances of button placement.

ps: Belatedly, I realize that this is not something you can print out and take to your sewing room, but I found it very informative. -- Edited on 1/28/13 1:35 PM -- |

I've made a few blouses with a hidden placket and they don't blow open, but one pattern did say to sew a few hand stitches in the area between the buttonholes. ------ I have not yet begun to procrastinate |

Date: 1/29/13 4:14 PM Cool! That's the best one I've seen. I folded up a piece of paper with her same markings and I can use that. Thanks all! ------ "We don't impose our rhythm on Nature. The key is to respect and live within Her." Jean-Charles Boisset, Winemaker
