Date: 1/28/13 10:45 PM I just finished this embroidery machine appliqued quilt and just couldn't find a fabric that was good for both the front and back. So I did a two sided binding and like how it turned out.
I don't do this often so it took me awhile to remember how to do it. So I documented how to do it on my blog for future reference. Here is how to do it if you want to see how.

Date: 1/29/13 9:40 AM Thanks Mufffet. This was a pattern from Smith Street Designs - Bright Hope. It was for a baby quilt but I enlarged it to 40 X 60 for a lap quilt. It was shown in pale colors but I had all these batiks in my stash and decided to make it very bright - unusal for my tastes but I also love it, much to my surprise. The pattern showed a laborius way to do the appliques but I did it my own way. ------ Elna Excellence 740, Pfaff Quilt expression 4.0, Janome 300E, Brother 8500D, Janome 900CPX CoverPro, Brother 5234 Project Runway Serger, Singer Treadle

What a GREAT idea on the binding, it looks beautiful. Great job!
Now please share how you did your applique? And what was the more difficult way the instructions called for? ------ Cathryn |

Well the pattern instructed one to make templates of the 5 different flowers, then trace and cut them out of fusible web, and then iron the pieces onto each block as you stitched each stage of the design. Really!! I had 24 flowers to applique - I would still be doing them. So I just layed the flower fabric onto the block and stitched the first thread - unhooped and cut close to the stitching line with applique scissors- rehooped and finished satin stitching, etc. It worked fine and of course, was much faster. Luckily I have 2 embroidery machines and by using both of them I was able to be cutting one while the other was stitching and made quick work of it all.
I just got an invitation to a baby shower today and the theme is elephants. So I think I will take this pattern and applique several different elephants in the blocks where this quilt has the flowers. I think it should be adorable if I use the right colors. Theme of the baby room is yellow and gray but I will introduce a few other colors into the quilt, maybe green and lavendar since they do not know the sex of the baby.------ Elna Excellence 740, Pfaff Quilt expression 4.0, Janome 300E, Brother 8500D, Janome 900CPX CoverPro, Brother 5234 Project Runway Serger, Singer Treadle
