I'm working on a dress in this Liberty print that I'm planning to wear Thursday night to a social event for my son's school. I don't think it's a every fancy thing, but it is still a party. And the only shoes I have that would match are nude patent leather peep toes. But it's January. And it's super cold out. So I can't really think about going bare legged. Plus i need my spanx to get into the damn thing because i cant seem to stick to my diet. But can I wear panty hose with peep toes? Is it totally crass? Or is it way too wrong to break out the spring shoes now?
I suppose I planned to wear this dress with tall brown boots and tights, but for a party, I feel like heels will be better. Why do I make dresses I have nothing to match? -- Edited on 1/29/13 8:42 AM -- ------ Melanie |

5 members like this. Date: 1/29/13 8:11 PM I think mama needs a new pair of shoes! LOL
I never miss an opportunity to get (or enable someone to get) a new pair of shoes...or a new bag, new fabric, oh the list is endless.
I see gals all the time wearing tights with all kinds of shoes. I don't think there are any rules these days...whatever you feel comfortable wearing. It is January. Have a good time! |

Date: 1/29/13 10:00 PM I think the boots would be fine for a party!!
(No help with hosiery; I am hosiery-challenged... although I am sure I've seen *tights* with peep-toes in catalogues.) ------ ~Gem in the prairie |

Date: 1/29/13 10:15 PM Sheer stockings are fine as long as they don't have the reinforced toe and you make sure the seam doesn't peep. And it kind of depends how big the peep is. Some that just really have a tiny area of toe showing look just fine with hosiery. A really open toe is more of a challenge. I accidentally bought a pair with an actual cut out for the big toe and I have never worn them. Must find a suitable occasion sometime. ------ http://bgballroom.wordpress.com to follow the progress on my next ballgown. |

Date: 1/29/13 10:45 PM 1. I love the look of peeptoes with contrasting colored tights, so it looks intentional.
2. They sell open-toed pantyhose specifically for peeptoes. Some are just open at the end, some have a flip flop-type toe with small piece connecting the top and bottom that goes in between your big toe and pointer toe. They are sold at any department store. ------ http://theslapdashsewist.blogspot.com

They are sold at any department store. I've seen those, too. Donna Karan is one brand, I think. |

Date: 1/30/13 10:34 AM Thanks for the feedback! These are a small peep and I would of course never wear those reinforced toe things. Lol. And mama really does need some new shoes, though I'm not sure I can justify it at the moment. Still, I placed a zappos order anyway for some brown heels. Maybe if I can find some other things to wear them with, I can get away with it.
I love the colored tights look with contrasting shoes, but not sure I could pull that off with nude shoes? I'm enough of a grown up that I wouldn't look too silly in old fashioned sheer pantyhose. I'm also old enough that being a little practical doesn't look bad either. At this point, I'm running out of time and will have to make do with what I've already got or what I can find at the corner drugstore.
I need to plan sewing projects better. I seem to often find myself with a lovely new dress and then not shoes/jewelry/cardi to wear with it. And since I seem to always be finishing them up for a specific event, I'm out of time to find any. ------ Melanie |

Date: 1/30/13 3:56 PM Here's a floral dress with grey tights and pink shoes.
On this page, there are lots of images showing pale floral dresses worn with black tights and black shoes, too. -- Edited on 1/30/13 3:59 PM -- |
